A hose barb is defined as one or more continuous ridges or bumps on a fitting that are used to grip the inside diameter of a tube and seal the connection. As a tube is installed on the fitting, it expands over the barb. Grip and seal occur as the tube tries to relax to its original inside diameter behind the barb.
